My latest character is a Conjurer in the Mages Guild. She went to Caldera to buy a potion from the potion seller there. When she got there, he said the quoted text, and disposition was in the mid-80s. What the hell kind of greeting is that for someone you're supposed to consider an ally?
I'm considering making a mod that eliminates this bit of dialogue. I can see an ordinary commoner saying something like that if a person is disliked, but a merchant? Aren't they supposed to want your money?
Anyone else think Bethesda messed up with that particular bit of dialogue or do you think they deliberately put it in that way? And why?

It's a Random 100 so if your disposition was less than 60, you had a random chance of it coming up. It just spoiled the immersion for me if it was a guild member saying that to me. It was someone in the Mages Guild that said it to my character who is a Conjurer in the guild.
What was also disturbing was the fact that my disposition was higher than 60 so I am not sure why it even came up since it was supposed to be less than 60, unless it was a glitch.
In any case, that little mod I made changed it. I tested it in game to be sure and all the Caldera NPCs I talked to and that greeting never came up. My disposition was 45 or better with all of them so hopefully that's a good indicator that it worked.
No more spoiled game immersion for me.

One of my characters was once insulted by a gaurd in Seyda Neen for wearing ugly clothes, but in a rather fancy talk way, while wearing extravagant pants and a new common shirt- I thought we looked spiffy, I believe the gaurd mentioned something about wearing bed linens- something to that effect.
His disposition wasn't that low eather, I cant tell you for sure what it was, but I was getting up their in the fighters guild rank wise, same said with the imperial cult, and had the lady as a birth sign. I had alot of good modifiers by way of 'ally' with the legion, so I'd have to believe it would be above 60.
Then their is the occasional smart ass redgaurd, Wayne at the Balmora fighters guild is very guilty of this, but other redgaurds say it as well. He occasionally quips up "Thats one ugly out fit." For giggles I've decided to dress exactly as him and wait for him to say it- Hal and I are still waiting so maybe theirs something to this....
Again, disposition seems not to matter. Its pretty easy to get good modifiers by doing well in the guild, plus i usually befriend him from the get go (AKA bribe and admire.)
I don't know maybe black clothes and Nordic mail with netch armor is ugly, and he is being friendly by saying so. I guess my gripe is a bit different than D's because hers was an attack against her characters character, mine against his clothing.
Still, it kinda pulled me outa the role. On the smiley side of it all, it has led to a social experiment of sorts....us dressing the same and all.

Just a note of caution on your experiment. Rings, belts, and amulets don't show up on your character, but can greatly change how people react to your clothes. I'm not sure if the value of armor is added in with your clothing values when determining how people react to your clothes.

Thanks for the tip, I'll dump my rings and things with my armor when I'm hanging out with wayne and we're doing our bobsy twins impression, (AKA dressed the same.).
So far he's been well behaved toward us.
I'll be sure to post up something if that changes.
