First and foremost let it be said that I haven't thought of this very thoroughly and the concept may have some major flaws I managed to overlook in the first rush of thoughts.
I am also not decided whether I am willing to make it or not. I know that spreading ideas around won't achieve anything, but maybe someone has already though about this.
Main idea: slow down alchemy learning curve by needing to learn about ingredients you want to gather.
I very much liked the concept of making potions in The Witcher game. One had to read a book to learn about particular ingredient(s) in order to be able to gather it in wilderness.
I am aware that many ingredients can be bought in Morrowind, but they're usually the common sort, so it wouldn't be much of a problem here, as the main source for any alchemist is plant gathering.
Technically, the Herbalism mods that places scripts on containers would be an ideal base for this mod. The gathering skill would still be raised by picking the plants, but gathering a particular plant would be limited by the ingredient knowledge. Such knowledge could be gained by reading books. Some books would describe common plants, probably whole groups of them, some would be specialized on rare plants. By reading such book, a whole group of plants or a particular one would be unlocked accordingly.
So there would be books about weeds, grasses, mushrooms, lichens, ashland plants, etc.
Extending this to creature ingredients would be also nice, though I'm afraid adding scripts to creatures would cause even more incompatibilities than doing the same with herbs.
I can't think of a way of doing it another way right now. If anyone can prove me wrong, I'd be glad. _________________

I like this idea a lot though I also am not sure how you would go about implementing it. Since there are so many different types of ingredients and so many creatures and places to acquire them, I could see this growing up to be an extensive mod with likely a lot of conflicts.
If you do decide to make something along these lines, I'd be happy to share some ideas and help test it. _________________ Denina
