GMST entries can be a royal pain, because even once you've cleaned them out, the construction set insists on sticking them back in again. However, here's a simple trick to doing away with the GMST problem forever:

  1. load the basic morrowind.esm file into your construction set without any other mods.

  2. Click the "save" icon to save a mod. Because you haven't done anything, it will be empty except for the GMST values that the construction set insists on sticking into everything. Name it something distinctive (I named mine GMST Blocker)

  3. Include (but do not make active) this .esp whenever you create a new mod or edit an existing one.

Because of the way the CS works, it won't add the GMST items if it thinks they already exist. Adding this .esp file will trick the CS into thinking they already exist (and technically they DO exist, but not in the active file, so they don't get saved when you finish your editing).

Obviously, you do NOT want to add this mod to the list of mods you actually PLAY with morrowind, just when you edit.

Also, if you merge multiple mods into one, the GMST lines from the blocker will be merged with the rest if you include it, or be automatically inserted if you don't. This means you'll have pesky GMST lines in your merged file no matter what you do, however...

After you merge your mods, load the newly created merged mod as the active file and include the GMST blocker .esp, then *ignore* any unwanted GMST lines in the newly merged file, and when you save it again, they'll be gone and stay gone. Note that this trick can also be used to clean GMST lines out of any dirty mod without downloading TESAME.

Note that this solution only prevents the construction set from inserting invalid GMST values into your mod without your permission. It doesn't in any way prevent you from intentionally changing any GMST value... not even if it's one of the 72 "dirty" GMSTs.

Hope you find it helpful,
Toccatta
