Potion Upgrade
Author : Schwaa
DOWNLOAD Potion Upgrade

Author's Description :
This plugin contains:
• New bottles for all potions.
• Each potion type will have colored fluids/label/material that match the magic type: School of Illusion potions are green, School of Restoration potions are blue...
• The bottles have bubble particles and a reflective map for extra shine.
• Potions have been renamed so they sort in your inventory by effect instead of type. All health potions will be together, ect...
• Cleaned with TesTool
• 911 kb
• Due to good feedback I got from the first release I decided to release bottles for the lesser potions. These will be glass/ceramic/clay bottles with reflective maps.[Fig.2] The cone shaped glass bottle will probably be 'fresh'and 'standard'(standard is smaller-there are very few fresh potions in game), The white ceramic bottles are Bargain, clay colored bottles are cheap.

A Brief Intro:
Well, I've been so fat and lazy lately that someone begin to worry about my health. So I decided to change my sugar preference from candies to eye candies. And this mod seems like just the right one for that.

As was suggested by the author, this mod change potion bottles in Morrowind with new meshes and textures. Not only the potion bottles are different in form (according to quality), but also the liquid color within said bottles is now different according to the potion type.Visually, it serve two-fold purpose as some of the most beautifully rendered things I've ever seen in Morrowind and make it easier to differentiate between potions at a quick glance. And this includes any home-made and specialized ones.

Personally, I've never had any problem with potion names in Morrowind, but in case of someone who did, the potions renaming according to type here might help a little.

Potion Upgrades

I used this mod just recently. It is basically a mesh and texture replacer, so I won't expect much more from it. Well, I was wrong.

The color-code system worked quite well it become a new habit for me to inspect potions by the look. And the bottles themselves made good ornamental addition for any display cases. Sometimes I just spend times seeing those new bottles and the bubbles within.

Because of its type I didn't feel any need to start a new game whatsoever for this review. It is enough that no other texture replacer that deal with the same aspect in game was in use.

Concept : Very Good

Change the old potion bottles with something new is always a welcome idea. A further addition to make color-coded potions and new naming system is as good as it can be even if it's done separately. The fact that those are within the same mod gives a very good addition to in game experience for those using this mod.

Lore Accuracy : Good

I've never seen any references about the coloration of any alchemical products in Morrowind. But I suppose it might be there, just as we know in real life. Both that and the potions naming were intended for an easier browse through inventory, not to break the game in any way, and they work fine.

Design : Excellent

Now we've come to where this mod really shines. Never before I've seen potion bottles so beautifully rendered, from the cap, body, liquid content to the bubbles within, they are quite a work. As I've mentioned, now it's not only the content, but the potion bottles themselves are nice collectible items.

I understand it might be very subjective when it comes to object rendering like mesh/texture replacers, but this one surely one of the top rank of its kind and even if it's not the best, it would at least put a new standard.

Attention to Details : Excellent

An excellent usage of rendering tools, this mod blends reflections, glows, transparencies and particles so well and rarely seen. For something looks that good, quite a work and time must have been spent for the details.

For some reasons home made potions did not get new icons as others but they'll appear with new bottles in game.

Conflict :

This mod changes some potion names. Noted by the author is possibility of conflict with some potion-sorting mods.

Overall :

A small mod that makes a live in Morrowind even more woth living ( if that can ever be). For such a rare piece of art, if you haven't using it already, this mod is worth giving a try. It's especially good when used along somekind of mod with matching quality that deal with other beverages.

a. Concept - Very good. I like anything that makes it easier to tell my potions apart.
b. Lore Accuracy - Excellent. The mod doesn't change anything lore-wise (unless you think potions that appear to be carbonated are not lore-friendly).
c. Design - Very good. Beautifully rendered and textured, this makes Morrowind's potions look so much better. I really like the designs for the various bottles. The higher quality potions look expensive, as they should. I'd prefer icons that would communicate both the quality and the exact effect the potion though. Similar potions share icons.
d. Attention to Detail - Excellent. Occasionally the bubble animation will stop for no apparent reason but this might be a conflict with other mods I have running. Most of the time it's simply beautiful. The bottles sit correctly on shelves, which can be a problem when replacing meshes. I haven't had any trouble with floating or sinking bottles.
e. Technical Achievement - Very good. Animated bubbles in potions! I haven't seen that anywhere else. All the potions are color-coded. Plugin is clean.
