Death's Doorstep Add-on
Authors : Rogue Shadow & Phijama
DOWNLOAD Death's Doorstep Add-on
Authors' Description :
This mod adds ancient ruins to the penninsula north of Gnisis. Upon entering, you will find ghostly denizens of an ancient city, many quests, and a Shop Owner who deals in evil and dark weapons, armor, clothes and more. This mod is taylored for darker characters, but "normal" and "holy" characters will find this of interest as well.
A Brief Intro :
This is a weapon & armor mod. It offers weapons, a lot of them, in various forms, styles and preferences, all beautifully crafted and finished and should be the pride of any self-respecting adventurer who wield them.
Weapon mods are some of my favorite mods. And this one is one of the best I've ever had. There are some highly imaginative and original designs in this mod that make it remains distinct to others of its kind.
For me, arms are not simply things used by the PC to slash and things over. A weapon is as much the identity of its wielder. A good weapon is not only important stat-wise, but can also signifies the personality of the owner.
It is not enough with just good skill and stats....you'll have to dress for the part as well.
More than a collection of arms and armor, this mod also has one of the best necropolis around. Complete with original soundtrack, lighting and all that really made the feel. Even if you are not really into weapons of any kind, it is still a good 'collectible' mod.

Death's Doorstep Add-on
I've used this mod for months (that would be hundreds of Morrowind days & dozens of level). Since I downloaded to play, I didn't make a clean save the first time I used it. Instead, I just added it to my already adventuring PC game (and this mod adds arms with stats & prices which make daedric katana looks like a junk, so there's no reason to use this mod for a new starter unless you're cheating on your gold -something I'm sure not how this mod was intended to play by-).
However, for this review I also made a new, clean save game to play with.
Concept : Excellent
Not only a whole collection of exquisite weaponry, this mod also give PC a new place to play with, complete with quests and environment that make the player really feel the part. And I might add, there's more to it if you're really doing something for your gear instead of finding it in some random place (this give a feeling that some adventurer has found his million-and-one-septim worth weapon and throw out his old million-septim worth weapon to be found by.....you).
Lore Accuracy : Good
The ancient ruins was supposed to be originated from age before time, thus for the lack of mentioning of the annals of Morrowind. Yet the authors also gave some valid explanations about the existence the ruins and its -former- denizens. Of course, you might ask how such place can go unmentioned, especially now with all the busy establisment of Imperialists in Morrowind. Well, you'd soon find out the reason once you enter the ruins.
Design : Excellent
All from the places, actors, buildings, containers and items are designed in a good way and with high taste. The objects are carefully placed and operated in smart ways. All the things relevant to this mod goes in one encased environment thus no need to interact (and potentially alter) things outside the mod. Given environment also designed so the player can get special feel unfounded anywhere else (this includes at least one lovely musics as well). About the weaponries themselves (as ones this mod is about), they are some of the best design I've found around. Not only in its originality, but also the rendering and finishing, they are really a sight to see and a pride to have.
Attention to Detail : Fair
I'd hate to rate as such. However, playing this mod for quite some time, I've found some lost-in-details and other flaws that should be mentioned. Though they are all minor things and would not wreck your game in general.
Whenever I get outside the place (ruins of Kal-Datha), I get error message about the game can not find some sound effect. It seems the changing of music in regard of changing place was not done properly.
One of the script attached to the bow has chance to stop working randomly. In my months of experience with this mod, it happened to my PC twice but as I have make it my Morrowind gaming policy to save every 5 minutes or so, it won't bother much. However, the possibility is still there.
Some scripts attached to weapons which give them special abilities can continue to affect the PC even if he/she no longer have said weapons.
Upon finishing one quest to make a fire quiver, I got error message and my game crashed. Fortunately, re-loading the game can save it without any further detriments.
The quest given by Fendaro has no resolve. It continue to be mentioned in my journal even after Fendaro is no more. And regarding Fendaro's supposed original armor, I found one other character also wear his mask (Mask of Fendaro).
You are going to get error message regarding a missing model if you try to fire the Death crossbow. Every fire. Thus this weapon is nearly unplayable in its current state (this problem was mentioned in authors' note).
According to a check with TESTool, this mod also contain some GMSTs and doublings of some area.
Conflicts :
This mod put entrance to the Ancient Ruins of Kal-Datha to the north of Gnisis (detailed map regarding the position is included in the download).
Overall :
This is an excellent addition for the ever expanding Morrowind arms collection. With some care and little fixings here and there, I believe it would be one superb mod to have around.

I have used Death's Doorstep for many years with many different characters.
Concept: Excellent
The weapons and armor are beautiful and worth the money they cost. The underground ruins have a unique feel to them with great atmosphere. The NPCs and quests fit with the overall design.
Lore Accuracy: Good
The authors definitely tried to make it blend into the rest of Morrowind. I don't think Death is personified anywhere else in Elderscrolls lore though.
Design: Good
The environments are well designed and fun to visit. The weapon designs are really great. The scripted weapons do have the occasional bug, though if you are careful about how you switch between weapons you shouldn't have any problems. Also there are non-scripted "tame" versions that work flawlessly.
Attention to Detail: Good
Little touches in the environments let you know the authors worked very hard on this. It feels like an ancient and haunted place. The details on the weapons and armors are second to none.
I also had trouble with the quests BoardGuest808888 mentioned and the Death crossbow is not useable. Some people may find some of the weapons over-powered, even with their high cost. There are quivers for sale that refill with highly-enchanted arrows, better than anything available without mods.
Technical Achievement: Excellent
This was the first mod I ever used that had scripted quivers, which refill with arrows at the cost of magicka. It still has one of the coolest doorways ever made for Morrowind. I also love the atmosphere created by the mists and glowing souls that float through the ruins, both of which I think were done for the first time here.
Overall: Excellent
This mod has so much flavor and does so many things well that its few hiccups are easy to get over. I recommend it for any character with money to spend on high-quality weaponry or who wants to have a conversation with Death. |
